By KSEE NewsFebruary 19, 2012(NBC LA) Firefighters and the state’s workplace safety arm are investigating a commercial film production accident that wounded a stuntman in Elysian Park on Friday afternoon. The incident happened at 2:40 p.m. near West Academy Road and Stadium Way, according to a fire department spokesman. The 28-year-old man, whose name was not released, was burned on the face, chest and arm.He was taken to a local hospital where he was listed in critical condition, officials said. The man was suspended about 60 feet above the ground by a crane and was supposed to collide with a balloon that looked like a wrecking ball, which was suspended by a separate crane, according to broadcast reports from the scene. On the second take, a low-explosive “squib” - the black-powder charges are typically used to mimic gunfire - ignited when the stuntman collided with the “wrecking ball,” and the man's face was burned, a stuntman told CBS2/KCAL9.
