BERLIN — Austria is set to launch its own film subsidy fund this year, which will provide a 20% tax break for productions that shoot in the Alpine nation.

The fund is modeled on Germany’s DFFF system, which has been highly successful in attracting Hollywood productions, including “Inglourious Basterds,” “The Reader,” “Ninja Assassin” and “Valkyrie” to shoot in Germany.

While the DFFF doles out €60 million ($85 million) in direct production subsidies each year, it is not yet clear how much Austria will pony up. The country’s film producers association is calling for €20 million ($28 million) annually.
