Busy Canadian film industry has low loonie to thank?

Manitoba’s film industry has a love-hate relationship with the struggling Canadian dollar.

On one hand, producer Kyle Irving says it’s attracting productions to come over the border here.

“If the financing is coming from outside, and you’re spending Canadian dollars, then it’s a huge advantage.

The Canadian film production scene hasn’t been this busy in a very long time.”

Irving says for him, the low dollar is not a great thing as his projects are done in Canada.

He adds that when he has to hire American talent, and pay in U-S dollars, he’s paying a huge premium.
