New York climbed up to No. 2 in feature film production, behind only California after tripling its movie production in 2014.
A study by FilmL.A. in Hollywood shows that New York jumped from seventh to second in film production last year by producing 13 movies, compared to four a year earlier.
FilmL.A.’s study looked at the locations where 106 movies were produced by six major and five mini-major studios. California topped the list with 22, up from 15 in 2013.
After California and New York, the United Kingdom and Canada tied for third with a dozen feature films. Georgia rounded out the top five by producing 10 films.
Of the 106 titles, the United States produced 69.
The increase means big money for New York. The total budget for the 13 movies amounted to $743 million, including $520 million spent in state. Movies produced in New York included “Annie,” “Amazing Spider Man 2,” “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” “Noah” and “Winter’s Tal
The study included films from 20th Century Fox, Paramount, Sony, Universal, the Walt Disney Co. and Warner Bros. as well as DreamWorks, Lionsgate, Summit Entertainment, Relativity and the Weinstein Co.
