€13.5 million cash boost for Luxembourg film industry

(CS) The Luxembourg Film Fund so far this year has granted over 13.5 million euros in financial aid for the development, writing and production of films and serials.

There are five deadlines in 2015 to submit applications for financial aid from the Film Fund. The first two have already passed with the third coming up at the beginning of June, followed by two additional dates in early August and late September.

In its first session of 2015, the selection committee of the Film Fund granted funds to seven projects under development, worth a total of 285,000 euros.

Another 6,807,567 were handed out to support production of six films, including a feature-length film titled Peter Pan, to be directed by British director Diarmuid Lawrence and written by Adrien Hodges, who created the 2014 BBC television series The Musketeers and wrote the script for 2011 film My Week with Marilyn.

In May, the selection committee granted another 6,453,047 euros to 12 projects in total, out of 21 applications.

Seven projects were given financial support worth 240,000 euros to fund development and scriptwriting. The rest of the money was given to five productions, including feature-length animated movie The Breadwinner by Irish filmmaker Nora Twomey.

Also among the list of directors is Rudolf van den Berg from the Netherlands, highlighting Luxembourg’s approach to international co-productions.

The selection committee includes president Jean-Louis Scheffen, Film Fund director Guy Daleiden, Boyd van Hoeij, Karin Schockweiler, Rachel Schmid and Sébastien Tasch.
